Reading Log
Reading books on comic theory has fundamentally changed how I approach the medium, due to the language and thought mechanisms they have provided me with. I am far more comfortable and confident in my comic making process after reading Scott McCloud’s work especially, my IRP project was initially inspired after reading ‘Reinventing Comics’.

Scribing
Jonathan recommended I look into artist scribing as a career path to support me financially, thus allowing me to spend most of my time working on my less-lucrative passion of comics. Scribe artists attend live events and conferences to create an infographic-style illustration from the conversation topic that is then provided to the hosting company as a resource. This profession can pay around £800-1500 for a day of work, with a structure of higher pay but less frequent jobs. I am considering joining the Sciberia agency to help spring-board into the industry field before eventually integrating it into my commissionable, independent practice (similar to how the past graduate B. Mure has established themself in the industry, having a page on their website specially for ‘Graphic Recording’ so clients can see their scribe work and get in contact directly).

Workshops
Hosting workshops/teaching/giving lectures in schools is an avenue I am interested in as it could provide me with better financial security while still being able to operate in the art industry. However, before doing any formal teaching I would like to try hosting comic meet-up and workshops (with ‘The Panelists’ collective as well as finding a community local once I move back up to York). I want to start working on some proposals for comic workshops at events such as ThoughtBubble Comic Festival and The Lakes International Comic Art Festival. Some other local avenues I could pursue include work at Leeds Art Uni (Comic and Concept Art BA) and York St Johns (Illustration BA).
